Our After-School Support is not just about completing Homework. It is true that our trained staff spend a lot of time supporting the children in finishing the Homework tasks set by schools, but over time we have come to realise that our After School has become so much more. As a safe place and a drop-in, we have become first point of contact for children to express their difficulties and worries on any number of topics, from bullying to personal issues.
It is often a place of much hilarity and jovial chat and hugs are never in short supply. It is important to us that our children get as much nutrition as possible and our food continues to be a popular item for discussion with the homemade soup and pasta remaining firm favourites. In 2009, we were grateful for the increased support from parents who volunteer their time to assist with the food and homework.
This has developed into parents meeting informally in the sittingroom while children complete their work and adds to the general familial and friendly atmosphere of our Project.
